1 4GB would mean your system would not be running in dual channel mode? some CPU's and mainboards dont like this. i would replace them with two new chips yea (perhaps use different dimm slots too).

ill let me better know what the problem is, if it isn't the RAM. But I think it's better if I replace them with 2x2GB modules, that way if it crashes again there is most likely a problem with the motherboard..right?
