It's more of a Tidy Up Without Annoying Players thing, than a gimmick. They want to remove the emblems; people (that're too slow to trade 'em in for gems/whatever) will whine if they don't get anything for 'em. Regarding portals remember 310% flying mounts in Azeroth and the new content is all in ZOMG HUUUUUGE zones. Intercontinental travel won't be the massive thing it currently is.

the 4000 cap is only for JP that is transferred from Frosts, once you're over 4000JP you can't transfer from frosts. So use all your frosts before you go gaining it by other means

2 JP per frost, 1650JP just for some boots.... the whole JP for your frosties is a bit of a gimmick unless you have SHIT loads (the cap is 4000JP?) I hope you still get them in Daily HC's! Thats the only way i got my gear really in wotlk!

Well during the Elemental attacks in the lead up to Cataclysm portals will open to let lower level characters escape. They've learnt from the Zombie Plague!
