well, I'm going to try it later. I've managed to get in contact with the previous owner, and i'll see if he can get his phone company to unlock it. Saves me the hassle and makes it alot easier to update

In order to keep it unlocked however - Never update it without 1st making sure the new version is jailbreak-able and you've removed any baseband upgrades from the new firmware using Pwnage Tool. Unless it is factory unlocked :/

Yes, infact, you can get it off him in any condition and do a forced recovery mode.

So I just get the previous owner to reset it to factory in his iTunes, and then I'm able to set it up with my iTunes?

Can hacktivate it. - If it's already unlocked, you won't have to tho. Unless you ever need to restore it.

btw. I'm considering buying a used iPhone 3GS (found a cheap 16 gb version, unlocked and in great condition). Are iPhone registered at Apple/iTunes like iPods and MacBooks are? And if so, do I need to get the previous owner to unregister it?
